Settembre è sempre stato per me, eterna studentessa, e forse ancora ora che i banchi di scuola li ho abbandonati da un po’, il mese in cui tutto ricomincia, il momento in cui bisogna rimboccarsi le maniche e riiniziare a lavorare sodo. Settembre, tuttavia, è, inoltre, un mese di transizione: non è più estate, ma non è ancora del tutto autunno. Non c’è ancora un vero e proprio cambio di stagione negli abiti anche se iniziano ad apparire le prime maniche lunghe e i giacchetti, più o meno leggeri. Non faccio molte spese in questo mese, soprattutto questo Settembre in cui motivi familiari mi hanno trattenuto più a casa che a lavoro e quindi anche il mio budget è stato piuttosto ridimensionato. Tuttavia ci sono alcuni acquisti che voglio condividere con voi.

To me, September has always been the month where everything starts again. It was like this when I used to be a student and maybe still it is like this, even if I am not at school anymore. It seems to me that this is the moment when you’ll have to roll up your sleeves and get down to it. September is also a month of transition: it’s not summer anymore, but it’s not even completely fall. You can still wait for the seasonal closet shift, even if we start to use again long, sleeved blouses and jackets. I usually don’t go shopping that much in September, especially this year, because I was busy for family reasons and I had to stay more at home rather than at work. Therefore, also my financial budget for shopping was a little different this time. Anyway, I have something that I’d like to share with you.

Un cugino di mio marito, Alessio, è venuto in visita da Londra. A parte gli straordinari the’ in foglia di Fortnum and Mason, gli ho chiesto di farsi un giro da Primark per me. Oltre a due maglioni invernali, uno per mio marito e uno per nostro figlio Roman, mi sono fatta portare questa camicia, che, da un sguardo rapido sul sito della catena di abbigliamento britannico, mi ha conquistato per la sua semplicità, eleganza e versatilità, grazie anche alla possibilità di rimuvere il nastro nero intorno al collo.

My husband’s cousin Alessio just came back from London. Therefore, I asked him to buy me the fabulous Fortnum and Mason loose leaf-tea and do a little shopping at Primark. Besides two winter sweaters, one for my husband and one for Roman, he also brought this shirt below. I was captured by its simplicity, elegance and versatility (and you can also remove the black tie) after I gave a quick look at the website.

Pensando alla stagione autunnale che sta arrivando, gli ultimi giorni del mese, per altri motivi, sono finita da Ross dove, davanti ai miei occhi, si è materializzato questo carinissimo poncho, che mi ha subito fatto pensare a uno di quei plaid da adagiare su un prato per farci un pic-nic.

Talking about fall season, I came across Ross Stores and this cute poncho just appeared in front of me. It made me immediately think about those comfy plaid blankets that you lay on the grass and have a picnic.

Andando da Walmart a prendere il pane e i pannolini ( ma i vostri toddlers fanno già la pipì nel vasino? Se la risposta è sì, si accettano consigli!), mi sono ritrovata davanti a questi carinissimi calzini firmati Disney, che non indosserò, ma che non ho potuto lasciare lì anche soprattutto per il prezzo. Magari li porterò a mia sorella e alle mie cugine la prossima volta che tornerò in visita a casa, che è un controsenso detto così, ma chi è espatriato come me può capirne totalmente il significato.

While I was in Walmart to buy some bread and diapers (speaking of, do your toddlers already pee on the potty? If the answer is yes, I ask for some advice, please!) and I found these cute socks by Disney. I will never wear them but I simply couldn’t leave them in the shop, especially at such a small price. Maybe I will give them as a gift to my sister or my cousins, once I will go back “home”. I know this might sound strange, but the expats like me will understand what I mean.

Settembre è anche stato il mese in cui il mio piccolo Roman ha scoperto l’esistenza dei veicoli agricoli e da costruzione, perché proprio dietro casa nostra stanno preparando il terreno che ospiterà nuove abitazioni. Personalmente è stato triste vedere abbattere il bosco e non ritrovarsi più la mattina a prendere il caffè, nei silenziosi momenti che precedono l’alba, in compagnia di cervi intenti a giocare e a pascolare in gruppo e in tranquillità nel giardino sul retro. Roman invece è rimasto incantato dai trattori e dagli altri macchinari. Così ho trovato le riproduzioni degli attuali veicoli della CAT (Caterpillar). Ne era così fiero che non smetteva di mostrarli a chiunque incontrasse sul suo cammino.

In the month of September my son Roman discovered the world of agricultural and building machinery, since they are starting to build new houses, just behind our house. I sincerely think that it was really sad to see how they destroyed the woods and I was thinking about how nice it was to drink coffee in the morning, right before dawn, while watching the deer playing and grazing in the garden just around the corner. Roman, instead, was captured by tractors and other machinery. So I found the toy CAT tractors and machines (Caterpillar). He was so proud of them that he couldn’t help it but show them to everybody he met.

Con l’imminente arrivo di Halloween, l’unica cosa che vorresti fare qui in USA è riempirti la casa di zucche e di decorazioni autunnali. E anche se non sei un’amante del genere, è inevitabile che qualcosa dentro al carrello ci finisca. Da Target ho trovato queste posate per Roman a solo un dollaro; non so perché, ma sembra che delle posate in più facciano sempre comodo. E poi le bustine di carta, che io preferisco di gran lunga alla plastica.

Since Halloween is coming, apparently the only thing you’d like to do here is to stuff your house with pumpkins and fall decorations. Even if it’s not your usual cup of tea, it’s quite impossible to avoid that something “falls” accidentally in your shopping cart. While in Target, I found these cutlery set for Roman, at 1 dollar only; so I took them, because apparently extra cutlery in the house is always useful. And then the treat bags, since I prefer the paper ones, rather than plastic.

Il mese scorso ho ordinato a Katy di Dodò-Teté un unicorno per Roman, ma non c’era ancora come lo volevo io, così nel frattempo che lei ne creasse uno azzurro tutto nuovo di zecca ma già galoppante e volante nella sua testa, ne ho preso uno rosa per me (lo trovate tra i preferiti di Agosto). Questo mese è arrivata la nuova creazione nella sua impeccabile, personalizzatissima e curatissima confezione.

Last month I requested Katy, aka Dodò-Teté, to sew a unicorn for Roman, but since it wasn’t still like the one I wanted, I waited for her to create a new one from scratch, all in a light-blue color. I already got a pink unicorn for me (you can see it in the favorites  of August). Last month her new creation arrived, as always in a flawless, customized and supercute packaging.

E una volta aperto il pacco (che ci metto almeno una giornata perché mi dispiace disfarlo) ecco la meraviglia: pura magia e bellezza e cura dei dettagli.

Once I opened the package (it usually takes one day for me to do it because I don’t want to ruin the package) and the there it is: pure magic, beauty and care in the details.

Il cosmetico che mi ha accompagnato per tutto il mese di Settembre, davvero il mio favorito, è questo rossetto della NYX MLS05 di un colore rosso/aranciato che dà subito colore al viso e un aspetto luminoso su un make up semplice e naturale. Perfetto anche di giorno.

The makeup product I have been using for all the month and has become my favorite one, is the NYX MLS05 red/orange lipstick. It makes your complexion pretty and bright, enhancing a natural and simple make-up. Perfect also for the day.

Visto il budget ridotto, questo mese ho deciso di sperimentare dei cosmetici della e.l.f. che sono davvero alla portata di ogni portafogli (almeno qui in USA, of course ).

Since I had a lower budget this month I opted for e.l.f make-up that suits all budgets (at least here in the US).

Premettendo che li ho presi a fine mese, non ho avuto molto tempo per provarli. Eppure il correttore Cover Everything Concelear mi sembra un prodotto “sincero” ovvero fa davvero quello che dice: copre le occhiaie. Tutte. È un prodotto non facilissimo da stendere ma con l’aiuto di un pennello piatto e un po’ di pazienza si riesce a utilizzare tranquillamente. È disponibile in una sola tonalità.

I have to admit that since I bought them at the very end of the month I did not have time to fully test them. But let me state that the Cover Everything Concealer seems to be a genuine product, in the sense that apparently, keeps its promise to cover eye bags. It’s not easy to apply, but with the help of a flat brush and a little patience it becomes easy to use eventually. It is available just in one nuance.

La cipria compatta Translucent Mattifying Powder mi piace perché pur opacizzando non va a coprire dando quell’effetto pesante da cerone di teatro. La confezione è pratica da borsetta.

I liked the Translucent Mattifying Powder because it’s matte but at the same time it doesn’t give that bad heavy mask look. This product fits well in a small purse.

Il Blush Palette in quattro tonalità , sul pesco/rosato sia opaco sia shimmer, mi piace molto. Toni caldi, perfetti per ravvivare anche il colorito più spento.

The Blush palette has four nuances, mostly a peachy/pinkish nuance, both matte and shimmer and I like it a lot. These warm nuances are perfect to enhance a dull complexion.

Questa penna Makeup Remover Pen mi ha colpito, ma non ho avuto ancora modo di provarla. Per me che sono pasticciona, ho pensato bene che potesse essere un aiuto in più soprattutto in quelle giornate in cui vado sempre di corsa e puntualmente il trucco viene fuori tutto fuorché perfetto.

This Makeup Remover Pen really caught my attention, but I did not have time to test it, yet. Since I am quite a bungler, I thought that it could help, especially in those hectic days, when my makeup will not be at its best.

Uso tantissimo il balsamo per le labbra in tutte le stagioni. Ho preso anche questo colorato Lip Balm Tint, che inoltre è anche gloss, per un ritocco dell’ultimo minuto quando sono fuori.

I always use lip balm, in every season. I tried also this Lip Balm Tint, which is also glossy, so I can use it when I am not at home, as a last-minute hack.

Questi della Essie sono i miei smalti preferiti di Settembre, presi entrambi a metà prezzo da TJMAXX:

• Material Girl: un prugna che diventa sempre più intenso a seconda delle passate.
• Size Matters: uno smalto che ho preso già qualche mese fa ma che ho usato tantissimo nell’ultimo periodo.

These nail polish by Essie are my favorite of September, bought at half price by TJMAXXX:

• Material Girl: a plum color that becomes more intense depending on the layers of lacquer.
• Size Matters: I bought this one a few months ago but I have been using it a lot over the last few weeks.
